A MLM business is NO more different than being a affiliate to anything you see for sale online. (ClickBank.com is an example of what affiliate marketing is all about).
Top MLM earners are using the same techniques that top affiliates use to make their incomes. Top affiliates have always set themselves apart from the rest of the pack. They market themselves, not their products.
And your success will come from the way you set yourself apart from the rest. In other words, you have to be unique. Separate yourself from the rest of your competition in order to beat them. (I will explain this in more detail later on).
Also, most people fall into the trap of thinking they are selling a product or service. You're not really selling a product or service, you are selling yourself! People buy from people first, not their products or services, so if you take away anything from this information, remember this foremost, it is YOU they are buying... the products or services are secondary.
The Five Key Components To Your Success (Follow These & You Will Be An Unstoppable Force)
- You MUST be perceived as a leader (not as a rep).
- You MUST have a way to generate your own leads (free and/or low cost).
- You MUST generate additional income from your leads.
- You MUST use attraction marketing to attract like minded people.
- You MUST give more than you take.
Ok, let's break down each point...
You MUST Be Perceived As A Leader (not as a rep)
As I mentioned earlier, people buy from people BEFORE they buy your opportunity. Let me ask you this, who would you want to join with,... a leader or some green pee who just joined their first MLM? I think it is an obvious choice.
So it is your job to be perceived as a leader, whether you are new to the industry or not. Now, I am not suggesting you lie... far from it, what I am saying is there are ways to be seen as an leader without being an expert or one who hasn't made a pile of money yet.
Nobody is a complete expert... nobody! Even the wealthiest MLM'ers will admit to that. For instance, not all write their own ad copy, or know how to create a web page, or write a effect email series, and so on.
And there is no need to make income claims to be seen as a leader. What leaders provide is a roadmap to success. They educate and know their products or service like the back of their hands. They know their members area and where everything is located. They DON'T do three way calls!!! Think about it, if you were asking a person about their product or service and the person you were speaking to said, "hold on, I'll get my sponsor on the phone", what does that tell you??? They don't know how to answer your questions. That is NOT being a leader.
A common problem I see all the time is NOT knowing or understanding the comp plan. If you asked a person to explain their compensation plan and they wanted to do a 3 way call with their sponsor, how can you take that person seriously? Wouldn't you prefer to join under the upline sponsor who knows all the answers? Of course you would.
Make no mistake about it, you are in business to profit. The ONLY way you will profit is by creating the appearance of being a leader. Understanding your business inside and out. Having all the answers to all the questions. That is what a leader is and that is who others are seeking out.
It is also important to know, those who are successful, out-source what they can't do. They hire ad copy specialists and web page designers who do a professional job so they have the appearance of being a pro. They invest their money wisely to create a web presence that shouts out to those who visit their Blog or website, they are a leader!
They NEVER send people to the companies website first. They have their own web presence.
Also, NEVER have your site on a free hosting service. Get your own domain name. Again, invest wisely in your business!!! You will never be seen as a leader with a free hosting service.
When creating your website/Blog, tell your story. Use photos, videos, etc of yourself and even your family. Do NOT fear being seen. It is YOU they are buying... present yourself well. Show people you care about them, are willing to help and support them. Become a real leader willing and able to give of yourself. I guarantee you, if you show all that, people will respond favorably.
Everyone I know has their strengths. Use your strengths to your advantage and out-source what you cannot do.
In summary, you need your own domain name (http://www.yourname.com). A professional website, whether it be a Blog or website telling your story. Know all your products/services inside and out. Know your members area and where everything is located and be seen as a leader and not just a rep!!!
You MUST Have A Way To Generate Your Own Leads
Another huge mistake is to buy leads from other sources. By generating your own leads, you are in control.
Here is what I mean. The leads you create are 100 times better because you KNOW how they were created. Plus, for the most part, you can generate most of your leads at no cost. Buying leads are expensive, so why pay for them when you don't have to?
Here is how to create your own leads...
Create a squeeze page, even several squeeze pages (squeeze pages are what prospects see to opt-in your mailing list) or outsource the work to those who know how to.
Here is an example of what a squeeze page looks like...
Notice that the opt-in form is in the upper right hand side of the page? That is the best place, bar-none to place the opt-in form. Never place your opt-in forms in the middle of the webpage or at the bottom, your opt-in rates will be much higher when placed in the upper right hand corner.
Also, about the design... Create a power headline that offers the greatest benefit to the prospect. Place bullet points below and try to keep it as short as possible. You can use audio and video... play with it. The fact is, some of the most ugly pages work the best. I saw a page that generated over 4 million leads and was just plain Jane. No audio, video or graphics at all. He just offered a great incentive to join his list!
The more specific you design your squeeze pages, the more qualified your leads will be.
For example, "work-from-home" squeeze pages are less targeted than "MLM" squeeze pages. If you are in MLM, then target the MLM community and not to the business opportunity seekers... after all, not all business opportunity seekers want to join a MLM business.
That is what I mean by being in control. You decide who you want to target to get the best results from your opt-in list.
To make a squeeze page work, you need a autoresponder. A autoresponder will send your opt-ins an email series you design.
I use TrafficWave.net because it costs less than most and is easy to use. They even offer great videos to get you up and running in no time...
Another way to create your own leads is to use sites that offer a MLM program at a low entry fee. For instance, go here. For just $15 you can create a lot of "paid" leads. Nothing works better than paid leads!
Make sure to track your results from your squeeze page. Use Google analytics. This way you will know where your traffic is coming from and what your conversion ratio is. All important to getting the most bang out of your squeeze pages.
Don't be afraid to test different headlines and add different incentives. The better the incentive, the faster your list will grow and the more money you'll be making in the long haul. I look for resell rights products as incentives. You might add free consultation or something else that has a high perceived value.
Your squeeze pages are the life line to your business. It is the foundation to your success. Do not take this step lightly. Test, test and test until you are getting at least a 10-20% conversion ratio. Meaning for every 100 who land on your page, 10-20 signups should occur.
There are a ton of places to advertise your squeeze pages for free. Just Google "post a free ad". And use the quotes for best results when doing a search in Google.
http://www.youtube.com is one of the best ways to get free traffic. All you need is a desktop recorder like CamStudio (which is FREE). It works like Camtasia without the high cost!
Another great way to get free traffic to your squeeze pages is to write articles. You can even outsource this task. When submitting articles to the article directories (which are free to post to), include your information and the link to your squeeze page.
You can also use CPA sites (just Google CPA sites). This is a way to pay a small cost for every lead generated. CPA stands for "cost-per-acquisition".
I tend to stay away from forums. You can place free ads in some forums, not all. I stay away because most people in forums waste too much of their time there, rather than working on their business. I have heard arguments for both sides, whether to join a forum or not, but for me it just doesn't seem like a good place to hang out and time well spent. I could place 30 ads in the time I would spend in forums... I figure that is better use of my time.

TIP: I use Traffic Geyser to get my squeeze pages to the top of the search engines, like Google. I have no expertise in SEO (search engine optimization), but Traffic Geyser works great! It is one of the best ways to generate an abundance of free leads.

List building is priority one. I suggest starting out with all the free methods of advertising until you see profits. Take a percentage of profits and start paying for quality traffic. If using Google Adwords, target your area and other MLM sites that have Google ads on their sites. To identify which sites have Google ads displayed, simply type in keywords into Google search, like "mlm". Click on all the sites on the first 2 pages,.. paid ads as well. Copy and paste the site URL's into a notepad that you have identified as having Google ads on their websites. This is a great way to pay pennies per click and have a highly targeted advertising campaign.
A great site that offers you all you could ever need to know about free advertising is here. (It also is a MLM business that costs very little and another way to get paid leads). The products are great and well worth the cost of admission, not to mention another way to profit from your list!
You MUST Generate Additional Income From Your Leads
Once your list builds, it is important to monetize it... time to start profiting!
Keep this in mind, only a small percentage of those you bring in from your lead generation methods will join your MLM program in the immediate future, even though you are targeting that industry. Why? Because, most are already committed to another program. It takes time to prove yourself and earn respect. Don't expect immediate recruits... it just doesn't work that way. Be patient and don't constantly push your MLM program in their face. Rather for the most part, teach and train... be a leader! Eventually, your prospects will ask you what you're MLM opportunity is.
That is why it is important for you to stay in touch with your prospects almost on a daily basis.
Continue to offer great mentorship and as time goes by, more and more of your list will gravitate to you. It takes time to earn respect and be known as a giver and not a taker. The more you give of yourself and mentor others, the more your business will grow. Share what is working for you and they will soon leave their sponsor for you.
You may be thinking... "How do I find enough material to provide to my list"? There are great courses for free and many others that cost some money. I love Residual Income Formula . It's a great course and there are a ton of courses on affiliate marketing as well. All of these will provide you with endless material that you can put into your own words for content and mentorship.
So how do you ultimately profit from your list? Especially right away?
By offering your advise, you offer solutions to their problems. For instance, there are a lot of products and services you can sell, without selling them. I always suggest the tools I use and courses I have purchased that have helped me, such as TrafficWave.net and Best Marketing Secrets, Internet wealth System, Maverick Money Makers & Residual Income Formula to name a few examples. As I write my emails, I simply throw in a recommendation.
Notice I said "recommendation". When you recommend something you are in fact selling something, without really selling. It is not a pitch to get people to buy. It is helpful advise, especially when the products do work (unlike most of the crap found in ClickBank).
Keep your recommendations to 1 per email. No more than 1. Too many recommendations and your list won't respond to any of your suggestions and you'll look like all you care about is their money.
There are a never ending supply of products and services you should recommend, all of which offer affiliate commissions. Offer nothing but the best and you'll have people buying from you everyday you send an email to your list. This added income will allow you to participate in paid advertising and grow your list even faster.
You can also create your own products for sale. Almost all leaders have their own products they market. This is something that really sets you apart. Video training courses, audio training, etc. And again, this can be out-sourced!
When writing your emails, base them on great content. Then put a recommendation into the mix. Don't create blatant ads. It repels people and it doesn't appear that you have their interest at heart. Really show you care about their success and you too will succeed!
The vast majority will buy something from you if you present your offers correctly. Write your emails as you would to a special friend. Talk directly to the reader as if it were just them reading the email and not to a crowd of people. Then place a recommendation based on the subject matter. Be sure to spell check your work before sending it. It's ok if your emails are not perfect, but if you have too many spelling or grammar errors, it will look like you rushed writing it and you'll lose some creditability.
I always seem to mess up the words like, there they're and their, yours, you're and your. And I am always being corrected on these errors, but in the end I do a pretty good job of being clear, concise and the spelling errors to a minimum. Spell checker works great, so be sure to use it!
If you have the ability to make others laugh,
throw it into your emails. Good humor is a art form and works
great to break down people's defenses.
You MUST Use Attraction Marketing To Attract Like Minded People
It's important that you be you!
I'll repeat myself again, people buy from people... not their products or services they are peddling. It's you they connect to. Your personality. Your dreams and aspirations are a mirror of their own dreams.
Don't try to be someone your not. If you just be yourself, people will be attracted to you because they think like you do. We aren't so different when it comes down to it. But we do communicate in different styles. Write the way you speak (of course, not too much swearing). ;-)
If you are a baby boomer, then you'll attract more baby boomers than younger people. Those in their twenties, will attract more people in their age group. However, if you provide great content, over deliver on your promises and give 'til it hurts, you'll attract most any age group and you will attract more people to join your opportunity.
Don't be afraid to share your likes and dislikes. For instance, I like the TV show "Monk". It is my show to laugh and try to figure out "who dun it". But I also like the science network, and learning about the cosmos. If I share who I am, then I am inviting them to be my friend.
And if I buy something that works and produces a profit, I will share that with my list... and as they get to know me, that I truly care about their success, they will gravitate to my suggestions and trust me. In the end, we both succeed because they in turn will duplicate what I do.
Most people have the same aspirations. They want to make enough to work from home, take vacations and have time with friends and family. All work and no play is not a balanced life. Help people maintain a healthy balance in life.
In the end, you want to attract like minded people. Your list will be more responsive and you'll earn more with less people on your list.
I have seen lists of only a 1000 people produce six figure yearly incomes for the list owners. These lists are highly targeted with like minded people sharing a common interest. By advertising to your age group, and your likes and desires, you will attract a better list and in the end be very profitable.
And once you have a track record with your list, providing solid content, advise, education and value, then they will be attracted more to you than those who just pitch them on a daily basis.
And the best part of all, your prospects will end
up calling you when they finally figure out that you really care
about them. That you give far more than you receive or ask
for. That you are a leader that has earned their respect.
That is the true crux of attraction marketing! Being the
person who they want to learn from and grow their business with your
support and care.
You MUST Give MORE Than You Take
This is not a suggestion... it is imperative!
As a leader, you will always extend your hand to help others. This means being flexible in the hours you respond to emails and phone calls.
It means that you will continue to educate yourself and let people know what works... and not expect to make money from every person you communicate with.
This is a people business and you have to put forth every effort to help others succeed. That's not to say you have to tolerate every person. For instance, whiners and cry babies I do not tolerate. They are time wasters. People who say "I have tried everything and nothing works"... B.S.! If they tried everything, then they would be successful. There is a formula to marketing successfully online and you have that formula in your possession right now!
Just put forth a real effort and treat your business as honestly and ethically as humanly possible. Be the person being sought after and you'll never call a lead again. They will call you!
If you only have time to work online part-time, treat it as if it were your full-time business. I won't kid you, it takes sacrifice to prevail. Pay your dues and you will succeed. NEVER give up, don't be lazy, that is for the losers! The Internet has made it possible for thousands, even millions to be successful, take your share and never look back.
